Private Clinical Practice as Urologist, managing patients from all subspecialties of Urology including General, Endourology, reconstructive and andrology, focusing mainly on interstitial cystitis. 

January 1995 to Present

Consultant Urologist at Dr. Jivraj Mehta Hospital and Research Center, Ahmedabad, India.Managing complex urological problems at this 200 bed multidisciplinary medical center with all modern urological facilities.

Senior Registrar in the Dept. of Urology at the Institute of Kidney Diseases and Research Center, Ahmedabad, India. I worked as a transplant surgeon in a team environment with nephrologists, focusing mainly on live donor renal transplantation.

February  1991 to June 1991

 Worked as  transplant  surgeon  in  the  transplant  team  of  Dr. F.P.Soonawala  dedicated  to  renal  transplant. I assisted Dr. Soonawala in  renal  transplants and donor  nephrectomy  and  also performed operations   under  his  supervision in various  hospitals  in  Mumbai, India. Dr. Soonawala  is the leading  transplant  surgeon  in  India .

Senior Registrar in the dept. of Urology at Jaslok Hospital and Research Center, Mumbai, India. Trained in various specialties of urology in a 300 bed highly advanced hospital under the guidance of leading Indian urologists of international repute, leading to Diplomate of National Board (Urology), the highest urology qualification in India. This  hospital  is  India’s pioneer  institute in the  field of  renal  transplantation  and  a  large part of my training  was  devoted to  renal  transplants and related  surgeries. Here  I was  fortunate  enough to  assist  and  independently perform both  live  related  donor  nephrectomy  and  renal  transplant  under  the supervision of  leading  transplant  surgeons of this country. Paper presented at West Zone chapter conference of the Urological Society of India.

Conducted the proceedings of PAINFUL BLADDER SYNDROME SYMPOSIUM  in USICON 2007 which was held at PATNA on 8th February 2007.

February 2008

W
as invited to attend the Interstitial cystitis definations meeting as a member of consensus group . this meeting was held at MIAMI with SUFU annual meeting.(Society for  Urodynamics and Female Urology). I was one of the 21 international experts who attended the meeting and contributed to the definition of IC.

December 2007

Attended the NIH/ NIDDK meeting on MAPP(Multiple approach to pelvic pain) held at BALTIMORE , MARYLAND  as member of international expert  committee. This meeting was a multispeciality meeting to discuss new approach to urological pelvic pain syndrome.

ttended the IAPO(Internation Association of Patients Organisations) meeting on public health and intellectual property rights at GENEVA .

March 2007

Attended  2nd ICICJ( INTERNATIONAL CONSULTATION ON INTERSTITIAL CYSTITIS JAPAN) which  was  held in march 2007 at Kyoto , JAPAN.Also attended the first ICICJ . In this meeting 32 urologist tried to  reach consensus on various aspects of interstitial cystitis.

June 2004

Invited to attend the meeting of European Society for Study of Interstitial Cystitis (IC), held at Copenhagen, Denmark  on June, 2004 as an international expert. I presented my paper on the proposed European criteria for IC. I have been nominated as a member in the  European expert committee  on criteria. This committee will work  in a time bound framework towards an evidence based definition of IC.

May 2003

Invited to attend the “European Workshop on ICin Copenhagen Denmark in May 2003,  as an international faculty and I was a member in the committee that framed the European guidelines for cystoscopic findings in patients with interstitial  cystitis. I was one of 23 international urologists who attended this workshop. 

March 2003

Attended the "International  Consultation on Interstitial Cystitis, Japan" held in Kyoto, Japan  in  March 2003 as international faculty. I was one of 25 urologists invited from all over the world to discuss redefinition and diagnostic criteria for IC. I presented the results of international survey on IC at the open session in this meeting.

Jan. 1999

Awarded   international grant of $2500 to study  the effect  of hydrodistension  on  urinary  bladder mucosa  by  NIDDK/ICA, New York, USA. This project was  completed and submitted in October 2000.

Feb 2008-SEP 2008

Participated in multicenter  pilot research project for NIH USA . This pilot study was  conducted at 11 centres in world (9 in north America, 1 in Europe and 1 in INDIA)  The initial results were presented in june 2008 at USA in NIDDK conference. The detailed results will be ready by the end of 2008. It will also analyse the   cultural difference  between INDIAN and North American and European population.

October 2006

“Simple diagnostic approach to complex problem painful bladder syndrome”-paper selected for poster presentation at 2006 international symposium frontiers in painful bladder syndrome and interstitial cystitis held at USA.

April  2003

“International survey on interstitial cystitis”, paper presented  at  American Urological Association meeting held in Chicago, April 2003.  This survey was conducted from August 2002 to April 2003. 153 researchers from 32 countries participated in the survey and responded to an international questionnaire.survey. This survey proved beyond doubt that there is no consensus on any aspect of IC throughout the world. It also emphasized the need to define and establish standard criteria for IC. It also proved that IC is a global disease.

Presented these three papers at the “International Symposium on IC and Bladder Research”, Minneapolis, MN, related to epidemiology, clinical presentation, management and basic research of patients suffering from IC during 1993 – 2000. I was invited as an international speaker.

April 2000

“Are glomerulations typical of IC?”

Paper selected for presentation at the IC session at AUA-2000, Atlanta, GA comparing cystoscopic findings of a group of 60 patients suffering from IC, chronic prostatitis and frequency-urgency-dysuria syndrome against 40 control patients.

October 1997

“Ultrasound diagnosis of IC”-Paper presented at “International Symposium on IC” in Washington DC, describing the feasibility of diagnosis of IC by Ultrasound in a select group of patients. I was invited as international speaker for the meeting.
